Birmingham New Street is one of the UK’s busiest railway stations which had to remain in use throughout the life of the project. Whilst the structural and civil engineering elements formed many innovative aspects to address a highly complex challenge, the project also demonstrated several examples of Building Services Engineering innovation and ingenuity including the use prefabricated modular engineering services spines. Evidence of construction excellence was noted, such as collaborative working, change control, quality assurance, team building, health and safety management and supply chain innovation.
Hampshire County Council’s SCOLA Reclad Programme (Highly Commended)

This programme has so far involved 106 SCOLA buildings in the County which have undergone recladding and refurbishment works. A further 18 are currently either on site or in the pipeline. The programme successfully brings the buildings into the 21st Century in terms of look, feel and sustainability providing a vibrant and modern place for children to learn.
