This project clearly set out to set a new benchmark in residential care and has succeeded to do so on a number of levels. The aspiration of a “5 star” facility is something you sense immediately as you approach the building, walk through reception and experience how the design team has responded to and embraced a stunning site. The environment created is rightly and appropriately caring but approachable and private where it needs to be. A building which delivers on what is one of the core challenges of our times.

Both judges felt this was a fantastic and visionary project. Both in terms of its aspirations and its delivery. A set of superb residential buildings combine both social and private housing into a seamless sustainable passivhaus development.
