The panel said this project was an absolute pleasure to visit and so much more than a garden centre. The nursery currently grows and nurtures plants for all public spaces within the Leeds area and does it so well they now have surplus to sell them on to the local community. Their former site consisted of inefficient poly tunnels and old buildings which grew incrementally over time. Their new site with purpose built greenhouse offering four different climates within, makes full use of collecting rainwater for irrigation, maximises solar thermal energy use and provides visibility so the community can view the growing process. Sales of plants have increased 100% over the first 8 months of opening and their methods are so successful that other Local Authorities in the area are interested in partnering and learning from their experience. A fantastic and very interesting project, well done.

This imaginative scheme, built over an existing suspended foundation slab met some challenging structural issues to reinvigorate a key public transport interchange. The panel were impressed with how well the difficult structural challenges have informed the response resulting in an excellent hub bringing together rail, bus and taxi services in the heart of Portsmouth historic dockyard area.
