Steve Rufus, President of SPACES said

As in previous years I am encouraged to see the diverse range and scale of projects being entered for the awards. It is interesting to see an increase in the number of refurbishments and repurposing of buildings this year. I feel this represents a change in approach by Local Authorities in the way they are using their existing assets rather than automatically going down the new build route. This may be driven by costs, and perhaps in some cases due to a recognition of the need to reduce embedded carbon. My congratulations go to all those that submitted projects, and especially the winner of the Civic Building of the Year.
